Two exams down.. one to go this week

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Last Friday, I took an exam in Computer Science I, which was not all that bad since I’ve been using C++ for years now (on and off). I just finished my Statistics exam and I think I did pretty well.. At least, I hope so… I have a Honors Humanities exam this Friday. School is going well and I’m having a lot of fun. I’m pretty busy, as I expected. So.. that’s all for now. :)

MSDN Subscription!

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

I finally have an MSDN (academic) subscription!!! It does not include EVERYTHING that a normal MSDN subscription includes, but it does include a LOT of software that is 100% free to me if I so choose to download it. :D So far, I have downloaded MSDOS 6.0 and Visual Studio 2005 Professional ($799 for once license straight from Microsoft). I have access to almost anything I want, including portions of Microsoft Office (but not the whole suite). (and luckily, I can get Office 2007 Ultimate for $60 since I’m a student — straight from Microsoft) This includes Vista Business Edition 64-bit, Server 2003, Server 2000, and even Windows XP Embedded (what in the world would I do with that?!?)

I’m pretty excited. :D Just thought I should let you know.. back to installing Visual Studio…

Taking notes

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I have recently discovered Microsoft’s OneNote. It’s a program included in the Office 2007 Home and Student edition that assists in taking notes. It has some pretty nice features and I have been using it for a few days now. As much as I hate Microsoft, it’s a pretty nice application. Actually, Office 2007 is pretty nice in general. The new interface for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is amazing and very intuitive. They use toolbar spaces at the top of the screen to maximize productivity by having nearly every option sorted into one of a couple of tabs. Every option is easily accessible.

Anyways.. I’m a bit tired, so sorry if the post was sloppy… here’s a screen cap that I took of OneNote: (click to enlarge)

My First Illustrator Design

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Today, I was playing around with Adobe Illustrator, a SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) editor. I know it doesn’t look like much, but I have managed to make Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man! Yes, I know the dots are not in a straight line. Here it is:

Now.. the cool thing about SVGs are that you can make them as large as you want without encountering any pixelation. :D (not a .png like I uploaded, but the .svg.)

End of Second Week of Classes

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

My second week of classes is over! I’m glad to have some time off. I spent almost the entire day today doing homework, but I am enjoying a nice break now. Accounting is beginning to confuse me a little bit, but the professor said that chapters 2-4 are tough (we are in chapter 2). I think I am going to head over to his office on Monday for some assistance. All of my other classes are going pretty well.

I’m having a good time and making some friends along the way. I have still neglected to take more pictures of the campus, but I promise, that is coming! I am just waiting for a sunny day. The past 3 days have been cloudy and sometimes rainy. The temperatures are supposed to drop off during this week and the sun should be out again soon. The highs for the end of this week are mixed between low to mid 60’s and high 50’s. A few days will be in the low 70’s.
