MacBook Saves Life; Takes Bullet
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007Supposedly, a MacBook has taken a bullet for its owner. It reportedly still runs. Amazing. I’m not in a mood to comment too much right now, so just go read it and look at the pictures!

Intel has now created an 80 core processor, which is what they describe to be a “network of computers on a chip.” The article says that, at 3.16GHz, the chip achieves a data bandwidth of 1.62Tb/s and a floating-point performance of 1.01TFlops, but what is even more amazing, is that the chip, at that clock, is running at 0.95 volts and consumes a mere 62 watts of energy (compare that to AMD’s new 64-bit X2 6000+ that, under max capacity, uses 125 watts Source). That’s like turning a lamp on! They managed to squeeze 1.8TFlops out of it when they clocked it higher, but power consumption soared to 265 watts. Still, if you take 202 of these processors (equal to that of the BlueGene supercomputer), the power consumption will be much, much less.
I’m taking donations towards purchasing one of these! Read the article.

Overall, I thought that this year’s batch of Superbowl ads were kind of lacking. Last year’s Emerald Nuts ad was far superior to this year’s Emerald Nuts ad. There were far too many Budwiser commercials. Last year’s beer commercials were much better than this year’s, in my opinion.
Youtube has a special section for the ads, so you don’t have to sort through all the clutter.
And here are my two favorites:

How could I forget… the first fan-made commercial to ever air during the Superbowl:
It was pretty good.
