World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Makes History
Wednesday, January 24th, 2007World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million copies on the first day that it was released. At $40 a pop, that comes out to $96,000,000. (96 million!!!) Granted, they didn’t make all of that 96 million dollars, but still. They’ve probably sold another million since. With 8 million subscribers worldwide (and growing), I expect 6-7 million copies to be sold by the middle of the year. That’s insane. World of Warcraft has the largest subscriber base out of any MMORPG ever created. Oh, and another million = $40,000,000. So, if we take out 20 million for various fees… well, even if they paid 40 million in fees, that’s still nearly one hundred million United States Dollars!
Oh, and they are making $120,000,000 per month off of subscribers. That is pure cash in their pockets. The only fees they pay are taxes and credit card company fees. And the subscriber base is growing. Think of how many people resubscribed just to play The Burning Crusade. Wow.
Great job, Blizzard. Anyone want to hook me up with a job there?
